Wandering and Grazing Stock

WANDERING AND GRAZING STOCK

Wandering livestock can create serious safety risks for road users, increasing the likelihood of traffic accidents. If the animals are carrying disease, they may also pose a biodiversity threat through cross-contamination.

Stock owners are reminded that they are responsible for minimising the risk of injury to road users and preventing stock losses by ensuring fencing is suitable and properly maintained for the animals being kept.

Council has no authority over wandering stock located on private property. If stock on your land does not belong to you, please contact the owner directly where they can be identified.

If you encounter wandering stock and are unable to identify the owner, or if the animals present an immediate hazard, please contact the Council office on 08 8752 1044.

A Section 222 Road Permit is required to graze stock on Council land. Permit holders must comply with all approval conditions, including but not limited to:

  • Providing a plan that outlines the proposed grazing area and the duration of grazing.
  • Supplying confirmation of public liability insurance with a minimum cover of $20,000,000.
