The Respecting Patient Choices Program was introduced to rural South Australia in March 2010 following successful implementation in the Barossa region in 2009. This Program is an Advance Care Planning Program which is evidence based, licensed and a national initiative endorsed by SA Health and CHSA.

The impact of the program is that when health care providers are informed and are aware of an individual's choice for future health care they are able to respect those choices and implement treatment options in accordance with instructions included in an advance care plan.

The Respecting Patient Choices (RPC) Program assists health professionals to understand an individuals wishes about their future treatment.

If you became seriously ill, or had a serious accident, and were not expected to return to your normal level of functioning and were unable to speak for yourself the Advance Care Planning process provides reassurance to your loved ones and peace of mind to yourself that your choices will be respected.
