Public Consultation - Economic Development & Tourism Strategy

PUBLIC CONSULTATION -  ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND TOURISM STRATEGY

Deadline for Public Comment has been extended to 5.00 pm 12 June 2020!!

At its March meeting, Tatiara District Council adopted the draft Economic Development and Tourism Strategy for public consultation.

The Strategy aims to maximise the benefits from potential and transformative opportunities presenting to the region through a strategic and proactive approach.

The Strategy establishes an ambitious plan for the district that responds to key challenges with actions to promote economic development, and provides a framework for the delivery of economic development activities. It articulates a vision for economic development in the Tatiara, and provides guidance for Council, the community and businesses as we work towards the realisation of this vision.

The Strategy will guide Council’s activities in supporting business and industry, whether through the promotion of local tourism, new investment attraction to the district, support for existing businesses, or the delivery of a range of events across the Tatiara designed to attract visitors to the region, and the creation of job opportunities.

The strategy proposes a range of actions, detailed in the attached Action Plan, across four priority areas:

  1. Workforce Development
  2. Tourism
  3. Liveability
  4. Competitive Advantage

Delivered in partnership with Council, community, businesses and other levels of government, these actions will build the competitiveness and resilience of our local economy and support the ongoing economic wellbeing of our community.

While developed before the current health and economic crisis, the Strategy will be vital in the Tatiara’s recovery from the impact of COVID-19.

Key initiatives are outlined and note specific measures that will be used to assess the effectiveness of this Strategy.

Council is inviting local community members, businesses and stakeholders to review the draft strategy.

The draft Strategy can be downloaded here.  It is open for public comment until 5pm Friday 12 June 2020.

Katherine Colbert has developed the strategy and is available to discuss the strategy over the phone, via email or by a pre-arranged Zoom meeting.
