AMP Memorial, Wiles Hut & Landrover on a Pole

Dukes Highway , Keith SA 5267

ladrover on a pole

In the 1950’s, the AMP Insurance Company funded the development of vast areas of bushland into farmland, resulting in a large period of growth for Keith. The AMP Memorial to this land development scheme consists of a Landrover on a Pole and one of the original Wiles Huts.

The Wiles hut is one of about 50 occupied by workers on the scheme - it was actually made of two prefabricated steel motor garages built by the Wiles Industrial Company of Mile End - and the early Land-Rover was essential to off-road travel.

The Memorial was erected in 1995.
